Janka Kupala

Ivan Lutsevich, known under the pseudonym Janka Kupala, was born in the village of Vyazynka in the family of a petty gentry. He worked as a home teacher, clerk, clerk, from 1905 he began to actively publish. One after another, the publishing house “Look at the Sun and Our End” published his poetry collections “Zhaleyka”, “Guslyar”, “Shlyakham Zhytsya”.

In 1914–1915 Kupala was the editor of the Nasha Niva newspaper. Approximately during this period, his famous plays “Paulinka” and “Tuteishya” were published. The latter, although it was banned for publication for 60 years, nevertheless brought special fame to the songwriter.
